Because there are over seven million people in my city, there is going to be a bad apple in the bunch. But when I walk home from my dance class at the age of 12 and am approached by multiple grown men with comments, and one that even followed me for several blocks, that's not one bad apple. That in my opinion, is society. We have made it "okay" to approach young women with derogatory comments walking down the street, we have made it ok to normalize sexual assault and we have made it okay to treat a massive group of people as sexual objects, as "inferior".

I have had the privilege to be able to travel around the globe, and sadly, the circumstances in many other countries are far worse. The saddest part of this is, many of these women don't even know that there is a different world that they have yet to experience, and many women in the US still don't feel they are treated equally, and they aren't. Where can we go to be treated fairly, respectfully, and with kindness? In November of 2017, I created Girls of the World as an online community to feel that warmth and kindness that many girls feel deprived of.  Girls of the World is a place to hear fellow sister's stories, to feel welcome, and to learn and grow from other's experiences. Together we can make a change and empower one another.
